Background: Protein A is a cell wall protein deriving from Staphylococcus aureus which exhibits unique binding properties for IgG from a variety of mammalian species and for some IgM and IgA as well. It binds with the Fc region of immunoglobulins preferentially through interaction with the heavy chain. It is conjugated to a wide variety of reporter molecules including fluorescent dyes, enzyme markers, biotin, colloidal gold and radioactive iodine for use in immunology and other biological research without affecting the antibody binding site.
It is also immobilized onto solid supports such as agarose beads for total IgG purifying from ascitic fluid, serum, culture supernatants and cell extract or interest protein.
Storage: Store at –20 oC for three years. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. The lyophilized protein is stable at room temperature for at least one month and for greater than a year when kept at -20oC. It is recommended that the product is reconstituted with sterile water into a final concentration of 10 mg/ml freshly.

Background: Protein G is a bacterial cell wall protein expressing atthe cell surface of some group C and group G Streptococcal strains thatbinds the Fc region of immunoglobulin G (IgG) with high affinity.Protein G binds to all IgG subclasses from human, mouse and rat species.It also binds to IgGs from guinea pig, rabbit, goat, cow, sheep, andhorse. Protein G shows a broader range of binding to IgG subclasses thandoes staphylococcal protein A. Some of the most important applicationareas for protein G are the isolation and purification or the removal ofIgG from serum, the purification of monoclonal antibodies, and theisolation of immune complexes. Protein G conjugates is commonly used asaffinity adsorbents to purify immunoglobulins (antibodies) andimmunoglobulin subtypes from serum, hybridoma ascites, tissue culturesupernatants and other biological fluids. In addition to the Fcreceptor, intact protein G has membrane spanning regions as well asspecific binding sites for albumin and for the Fab region ofimmunoglobins. The albumin and cell surface binding domains have beeneliminated from recombinant protein G to ensure the maximum specific IgGbinding capacity.
